    Spring Must Haves

    I'm not a huge fan of spring, mainly because I LOVE summer and get a tad impatient for the hot pool-weather days. However, I do love seeing all the new spring trends, products, and ideas. Today we're sharing a few Spring Must Haves from our fabulous sponsors. We so appreciate our sponsors. They make this blog possible and we're so grateful for that! Make sure you check them out and tell them RHBC sent you! ********************************************************************************** Remember the awesome artwork we made for Jess' house? Well, it wouldn't have looked half as amazing without the mad-photo-skills of Stacy Salvatori. She's local to Bucks County and would be a great choice for your family pictures or next big event. Visit Stacy's Website

    I'm love with the Just for Girls Collection from Red Letter Words. How fun and springy are these prints? I plan to order a few for Kenzie's room in the next few weeks. I love art that looks cool and will also daily encourage my tween (holy cow that is the first time I've written that. I can't believe I have a ten year old!) Visit Red Letter Words

    #1- Make 5 Dinners in One Hour… that's NO JOKE! These crazy affordable meal plans with shopping lists and directions will rock your world. Head over to their Facebook page to try one week for FREE!

    #2- We're so glad that 31 Gifts jumped on the Grey & Yellow bandwagon and came out with this adorable line! I'd love an organizing utility tote in this pattern! Contact Mandy to get yours (you can get me one too!)

    #3- Have you visited My Best Friend's Hair yet? You definitely need to. If you have a stylist you love, go let the world know by leaving a review or if you have yet to find the right stylist for you, head to their site to read other users reviews and find yourself a rockin' stylist today!

    #4- I require a perfect spring candle in my kitchen this time of year. CJ's EcoChic Candles smell amazing, and because they're soy they last forever! (ok, not literally, but figuratively). They best part… you're not going to pay $25 like you would at the big chain stores and you're supporting a great small business.

    #5-This is a spoiler alert! Remember the SuperFab room makeover we're currently working on? Well, we have Royal Design Studios to thank for one of the amazing design elements in the room. They have the best stencil selection around! Check out their new and improved website and they have an idea blog with all kinds of inspiration. Guess who was featured there for our Nate Show stencil project? Visit their new website!

    #6- Kotton Pickin' Kute is more than just hats! For Spring you need to check out the fun headbands she offers. Seriously, that baby is adorable!

    #7- Guess what?? Liberty Thrift listened to its shoppers and extended their hours! Woohoo! It's now open M-Sat 9-7pm. We have a fun outing in the works with Liberty and can't wait to share the details with you!

    #8- Moo & Puppy is our favorite digital scrapbook company out there! We love the preppy look of this madras paper pack. (I'll confess that in the 90s I loved and wore lots of Abercrombie before they went all half-naked. But man, I do love me some preppy styles!) Moo & Puppy is giving you 15% off with the code RHBC15.

    #9- Jet Upholstery is more than just chairs and cushions! Look at that amazing bed! Even for these DIYers some projects are better left to the pros! Visit Jet's Website for more info!

    Those links should keep you busy for a while! I actually have about 15 tabs open on my computer right now, because I want to place a ton of orders! Thanks again to our sponsors! You're the best!

    Sneak Peek {SuperFab Room Redesign)

    If you follow us on Facebook, you might have seen that we have been working on a fabulous room redesign for a friend of ours. We spent a few hours hunting for the perfect accessories, paint, furniture, and bedding this weekend at HomeGoods, Architectural Antiques, Liberty Thift store and a great new huge thrift store called Impact. You know how when you have money to spend, and you can't find anything awesome to spend it on? Well, that did not happen to us this weekend! We hit the jackpot at each of those stores and can't wait to fill you in on all the details. But for now, here's a sneak peek at the room BEFORE we attacked it with our mad decorating skills. (Ha!)

    Looks like we have our work cut out for us, right? We're totally up for the challenge!; ) We bought this chair for $10 and are so excited to change it up!

    Oh, look! Another industrial push cart-thingy. It seems we have a soft spot for these guys (and for only $8, we'd be crazy not to bring it home with us!)

    Oh, hello, cute little dog figurine. Life as you know it as a silver dachsund is over, my friend.

    Lots more to come about this project.: ) So, fill us in on what you did this weekend! Any hard-core shopping excursions?

  • Behind the Scenes of a Small Business {Lucent Lampworks}

    Behind the Scenes of a Small Business {Lucent Lampworks}

    Did you guys know that Monica and I love discovering and studying small businesses, right? We both have owned our own businesses, and now run this blog which has turned into a small business in it's own right. We find it fascinating to watch people do what they love to do and turn their gifts into a fulfilling career! There's just something so inspiring about the whole thing. A few weeeks ago, I gave you a peek into my dining room complete with three new fabulous light fixtures from Lucent Lampworks. We thought it would be fun to let you in on what it's like behind the scenes with Brad at his home, and how we both fell in love with a few lights for our own homes.

    This is Brad. (and his adorable daughter, Lia)

    He is not an electrician. He is not a trained lighting designer. He is a self-proclaimed tinkerer with a creative side who one day decided to make a few custom lights for friends and family as Christmas gifts when money was tight. He opened an Etsy shop, had a sale a few days later and is now creating fabulous light fixtures out of old barn pulleys, found items and whatever gets his creative juices flowing for people all around the world. People, this guy is seriously talented. Since 2010, his lights have been showcased in the following awesome places: *Extreme Makeover Home Edition — Beautiful New Home in Texas that aired in 2012 *The Winter Collection Catalog for Stylish Home Magazine — www.stylishhome.com
    *History Channel show — Abandoned — aired August 2012
    *Featured in Soulemama.com
    *Food Channel — Restaurant Takeover — Canadian version airing this fall!

    Monica and I went to visit his little"shop" in his basement to see how he does it all and quickly realized how out of our element we were when Brad started talking about all the old reproduction wiring, vintage plug ends and exposed sockets.: ) But what we did know was that Brad was passionate about that stuff and it showed in his work.

    Brad styles all the photos of his lights himself and has an incredible set up. See all those different backgrounds? He makes most of them himself so that his lights pop against them.

    He doesn't mess around with lighting his"sets" either. Every thing this guy does is done right.

    See what I mean? We got a few ideas for creating backgrounds for our finished projects, so, thanks, Brad!; )

    Cage light anyone?

    Monica got two of these gorgeous green enamel shades made for her. You have to wait for Spring to see what she did with them, but they are incredible!

    I had to get my cheesy pic with that cobalt blue beauty and Monica was totally digging this glass cylinder pendant.

    And, in case you're wondering, this trip to his shop was where I first spotted the white, enamel pendant light that is now proudly living above my dining room table.

    I also spotted this cage light which inspired the industrial cage light sconces that flank the art in that same room. Brad took my idea, researched and found cages from the early 1900's and turned them into awesome sconces. I loooooove them!

    Isn't that amazing? We strongly encourage you to take at a look at Brad's shop to see what other awesomeness he has going on there. You will not meet a nicer guy and he'd be happy to help you create the light of your dreams (please tell me I'm not the only one who dreams about lighting…) Oh yeah, one more thing just for you guys! You can get 10% off your order at Lucent Lampworks by using the coupon code EC2tenoff! You're welcome! Do any of you have a small business? Leave us a comment with the name so we can check it out! It's one of our favorite things to do!

  • Ginormous Family Art {With an Industrial Flare}

    Ginormous Family Art {With an Industrial Flare}

    The hubs and I had a little chat a few weeks ago… we were both pretty sick of having a semi-finished family room. We’ve had bare walls for pretty much ever. I just couldn’t decide what to do… stalking other blogs and design sites had me leaning a different direction every day. Finally, I decided to just do something!
    Remember my fingerprint artwork? I still really love it, but decided it needed to be relocated to the other side of the room.

    finished 2

    What, you might ask, did I have planned for the striped wall?
    Welcome to my Ginormous $4.99 Family Art work

    Ginormous

    Pin It Right off the bat… YES, I know the picture comes beyond the frame, and I did do it on purpose. My kids have asked me about that about 214754 times in the past two weeks.
    Here's how I made a 4x3 Ginormous piece of family art for only $4.99! I headed to the Bucks County Re-Store on Saturday afternoon without anything specific in mind. I just knew I hadn't done a project in forever and I needed some inspiration. I only bought one item, but it was $15 and just what I needed to spark a project idea!

    DSC_0008-1

    Check out my new $15 mirror and my super-cool dance move! (Yes, I was doing that while taking the picture. Too cool for school, I know…)

    DSC_0010-1

    This was how it came from ReStore and where my demo needed to begin.

    DSC_0012-1

    I unscrewed the wooden boards from the back and then took a screwdriver to pry off the wooden backside. I just tapped it in with a hammer and then angled the screwdriver. I did this all around the edges until it came free.

    DSC_0014-1

    I was left with a big mirror (still plotting what to do with it), the frame I needed, and a piece of wood that headed to the trash.

    DSC_0015-1

    I primed the mirror first… do you know how rare it is that I take the time to prime? I was proud. After the primer I gave it two coats of Valspar's Navy spray paint.

    DSC_0033-2

    Remember the awesome family pictures that the fabulous Stacy Salvatori took back in the fall? Well, I knew I was ready to have one blown up really, really big, but I didn't want to pay big bucks for a massive print. Thankfully, Staples will print huge black and white pictures. Just ask for an engineering print. They can go over 3 feet wide and really long. I just brought the jpeg on a flash drive and they uploaded and printed in about 5 minutes. The best part… It cost me $4.99!!

    DSC_0002-1

    Do you recognize that black paper behind the photo? It's the infamous Nate Show Tar Paper! I was wicked excited to use it for another project!

    I got out my trusty yet my nemesis spray adhesive and got to work sticking the pic to the tar paper.

    DSC_0005-1

    The engineer prints aren't on heavy paper, they're on average copy weight paper, so I wanted to give it a bit more stability with the tar paper.

    DSC_0003-1

    I adhered it, trimmed the edges with a utility knife and then got out my favorite new tool… my grommeter! I only had gold grommets, so I spray painted them a hammered metal first. I put one grommet on each side.

    Grommet

    I had two copies of this framed print laying around back from my old homestaging days. I decided to ditch the boat and use the frames.

    DSC_0045-1

    I also had about five of these frames laying around in my basement and decided to have them join the navy spray paint club as well.

    DSC_0047-1

    Here's the arrangement as it looks now. I added gold chain to the grommets and I'm in search for the perfect doorknob to hang it from in the middle. I might need to head over to Architectural Antiques this weekend. I'm also going to add sketched artwork to the 4 empty frames.

    DSC_0092

    All-in-all, I'm thrilled with how this completely inexpensive family artwork turned out. I love having my family's faces right in our main living space, and I love that it's a little quirky and unique.

    Ginormous

    Don't worry, I'll share the true finished product once I get a knob and artwork added. I was just too impatient not to share the family pic right away!
    So, how many of you are running to Staples to BLOW-UP some Ginormous pics?

  • Welcome {to my New & Improved Entryway!}

    Welcome {to my New & Improved Entryway!}

    I am on a mission. A mission to make my house feel somewhat normal, organized and beautiful in the midst of our kitchen renovation. I am failing miserably, by the way, if you were curious about the state of my mission. But still, I'm plugging away. While my hubs has been working diligently on our kitchen in his very rare spare time, I have been busy trying to impart a bit of character into our entryway. Last time you saw it, it looked like this:

    I love the giant letter"J" that I found at Home Goods, but the whole vibe of the space was just feeling off and, I hate to say it, boring. As you know, I love neutrals and think they can be warm and welcoming and interesting all at the same time, but if they're not used well, they can be plain, old boring. I decided to add some interest to that wall with the"J", since it's the one staring you in the face when you walk in the front door. I tossed around a bunch of ideas like adding our names around the letter, making it a gallery wall, stenciling and so on, but I just kept coming back over and over again to stripes. So, stripes it is. Plus, last week I shared that I was starting a gallery wall of white frames on the wall leading into the kitchen. Obviously, I have lost my mind, and can't find my way out of the million projects that keep accumulating in my head. But that's another story for another time.

    I started by gathering all the frames I had laying around the house (and ok, confession: there are several walls in my house that are naked now that I took the frames from them), and decided on a layout. There is no real trick to this, but if you need help getting started, check out these gallery wall layout templates.

    Then grab the cutest guy you know, and get to work. I wanted to see my frames on the wall before I spray-painted them white. I actually lived with the arrangement for a few days before I did anything to make sure that it was exactly how I wanted it. Fixing a nail hole is super-easy, so I wasn't too concerned about the possibility of me not liking it and having to repair a bunch of holes. To each, his own, I always say.

    And just so you know: it's never too early to teach your kids how to DIY.

    Time to spray-paint! (Between this gallery wall and our Nate Show projects, I think my nickname should now be Captain Spraypaints-Alot or Wonder-Painter, or Super-Sprayer. You get the idea.)

    So do you want to see it? Here's my new, not-boring-in-my-humble-opinion entryway!

    Ignore the wonky lighting and wierd shadows- I missed good sunlight hours today!

    This is the view from the kitchen, and yes, you are getting a peek at my new stencil, which is currently my most favorite thing ever.

    I got these cute, little prints for free at Sprik Space. They come in a bunch of great colors!
    And I absolutely can't wait to show you what I have planned for that big space above the stairs (you know, the one that still houses my remaining Christmas decor. Just keepin' it real, folks.)

    What's your opinion of neutrals? Love them or hate them?

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    I hope you had the chance to check out Red Letter Word's gorgeous new Hymn Collection. If not, you really should! There's no better way to add meaningful art into your home.

    I need this in my house ASAP. What a great reminder of what's really important.
    Have an awesome day!

    You know what make us thankful? Besides our families, good friends, this blog and each other (of course!), it's Black Friday! Right now you can buy a 11 x 14 Canvas for only $15 from Canvas People and $1 of every order will be donated to help fight Breast Cancer! If you need some inspiration for what to put on a canvas, check out this post! 8. Not gonna lie, once the holiday season starts (right after Halloween, in my opinion), I often need a reminder to stop and be thankful for all that I have. This 1 Thessalonians 5:16 Print from Red Letter Words makes a perfect visual reminder of that very thing…and it looks cool, too. Check out the fun new turquoise color, too! They also have a really fun, very sweet Print of the Month focused on the value we women have, and you will receive 20% off this entire section through the end of this month. 9. We love Moo & Puppy digital paper so much, we even wrote a post about all of it's many uses! I'm really liking the fall-ish colors of the Retro Digital Scrapbook Paper. Use the discount code EC2blog20 for 20% off your order!

    10. We all know that Thirty-One Gifts has cute and affordable bags, but the one item I've had my eye for over a year is this small Magazine Basket. I love it's shape and versatility! Plus, you can personalize all baskets for only a few dollars more. Right now, mention EC2Blog when you order any basket and get any second item in the catalog 31% off. To place your order, click here and shoot an email to Amanda with your order.

    11.Liberty Thrift Store is hands-down our go-to thrift store. Did you know that we found the chair we reupholstered for the Nate Show there? • Fab Find Friday

    Fab Find Friday

    This fab find is truly fabulous! About a month ago, I went into Stuff to take a look around. I had both kids in tow, but was so curious to see what they had to offer, and was completely blown away! I could have spent another hour or two just browsing, but couldn't because of the kids. So, I dragged Monica (I didn't literally drag her; she was pretty willing and excited about going) in and she loved it just as much as I did.

    . It is absolutely huge, which means they have tons of great furniture and decor!

    You can find some really cool, unique art pieces there, for a fraction of the price you would pay somewhere else. They have several LARGE mirrors (like the one I'm sitting in front of) that would make a major statement in your home, without emptying your bank account. And I love that rust-colored chair Monica is sitting on, too. (Doesn't she look adorable? What a great picture of her laughing. It must have been something I said.; )

    Stuff is the closeout store for their store Dwelling in Manayunk, Pa. The farmhouse tables they have are to die for, and we could not believe how affordable they are.

    Plus, the decor items, like those moss balls, those colored vases and that red buffet are so super cool, and really different. So.fun.

    You can find something for every single style. Monica loved the funky accessories, and I was digging the rustic wooden bowls and containers.

    You should absolutely go check out Stuff Closeouts and Consignments. It is located in Colmar, PA and is open Friday through Sunday.

    I have my eye on those tall basket vases for my dining room (please ignore how I'm lovingly cradling them. It's just wierd and kind of creepy, but I do adore them), and Monica, well, that sign sums up the story of her life pretty darn well.: )
    Find out more about Stuff on their website, and even better, go visit the store! This weekend you can get 40% off all sofas, chairs and accessories. You won't be disappointed.
    Tell them the Real Housewives sent you!: )

    In the interest of full disclosure, this is a sponsored post, but all opinions, words and picture are ours. We only share things that we REALLY love with our favorite readers.: )

  • A Big Shout-out!

    A Big Shout-out!

    Well, while you're reading this, we're probably at the Nate Berkus Show trying hard to look cool and not say something dumb doing our thing. So, we wanted to take this time to give a huge thank you to our sponsors this month! We have enjoyed working with these fine ladies, and are thrilled with the services and product they offer. Would we advertise a product we didn't like/wouldn't use ourselves? No way. So, here they are in no particular order. Give them some love, ok? And tell them the Real Housewives of BC sent you.: )

    Amanda with Thirty-One Gifts is pretty darn awesome. And if you haven't heard of Thirty-One Gifts yet, what rock have you been hiding under? Who doesn't want a super fun, trendy and cute customizable bag or purse? Seriously, every single one of my friends has the Retro Metro bag.

    Bethany's business is absolutely booming, and it's no wonder why. Her headbands are out-of-this-world cute. And c'mon, you know your daughter/granddaughter/niece would be the most adorable thing in the whole world in a Blossom Band.

    One of my favorite products Bethany offers is a Blossom Band of the Month subscription. Talk about the gift that keeps on giving. You get an adorable band once a month! It's crazy affordable and her style is just to die for, so you know it's going to be something amazing coming each month.
